About

Whipple Dam State Park is a 256-acre day-use park nestled in the scenic Rothrock State Forest, 12 miles south of State College. The park features the 22-acre Whipple Lake, created by damming Laurel Run, which offers fishing for warmwater species, ice fishing in winter, and boating with electric motors. A 300-foot sand beach with a bathhouse and snack bar operates from late May through mid-September. The park preserves three pavilions constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930s, showcasing rustic architecture that harmonizes with the natural landscape. These pavilions accommodate groups of 40-75 people and can be reserved through the state park reservation system. The Lakeside Pavilion is ADA accessible. Whipple Dam does not offer overnight camping. The park operates as a day-use facility only, open sunrise to sunset year-round. For overnight accommodations, campers should consider nearby Greenwood Furnace State Park, which administers Whipple Dam and offers tent and RV camping.
