Whipple Dam State Park is a quiet 256-acre day-use park nestled in the Rothrock State Forest in northeastern Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, just 12 miles south of State College. The centerpiece is a 22-acre lake offering swimming from a sandy beach, fishing (stocked with trout by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission), and boating with electric or non-powered boats only. The park features three reservable picnic pavilions (Lakeside, Horseshoe, and CCC), numerous picnic tables throughout the forested day-use area, and restrooms with potable water. Visitors can enjoy hiking trails, wildlife watching, bird watching, and ice fishing in winter. The park was originally developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, with historic structures listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The beach operates from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. This is not an overnight camping facility, though nearby camping options exist in the surrounding Rothrock State Forest and at Greenwood Furnace State Park. The park is open year-round from sunrise to sunset, with day-use areas closing at dusk.

Directions

Located in northeastern Huntingdon County, 12 miles south of State College. Turn east off PA Route 26 at the Whipple Dam State Park sign. The park is accessed via Laurel Run Road.
