TERMINATION ORDER: Stage II Fire Restrictions and Emergency Recreational Shooting Order

About

Colcord Ridge Campground sits within a mixed forest of Ponderosa pine, white and Douglas fir at 7,600 feet elevation on the Pleasant Valley Ranger District of Tonto National Forest. The campground provides a cool retreat during Arizona's hot summer months, with temperatures dropping into the teens during winter. Located at the intersection of Forest Road 512 and Forest Road 33, the campground is accessed via unpaved roads and is particularly well-suited for youth learning to camp. Trout fishing is available 5 miles east at Canyon Creek Fish Hatchery via FR 33. The area supports diverse wildlife including black bear, elk, mountain lion, javelina, and deer. The campground has a 14-day stay limit and can accommodate trailers under 32 feet. Pack-in, pack-out rules apply as there is no trash service.

Directions

Access #1 (36 miles east of Payson): From Payson, travel 33 miles east on paved State Highway 260. Turn right on unpaved Young Road/Forest Road 512 and continue 3 miles to Forest Road 33 (unpaved). Colcord Ridge Campground is at the intersection of FR 512 and FR 33. Access #2 (23 miles north of Young): From Young, take unpaved State Highway 288/Forest Road 512 about 23 miles north to the site.
