Big Meadows Reservoir Campground
Closed — Concessionaire operations ended for the 2025 season. The campground is currently closed for winter, but 6 sites are available outside the locked gate on a first-come, first-served basis at $10 per night. No water, trash service, or camp host during off-season. Main season operates Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.

About
Big Meadows Reservoir Campground meanders up a mountainside above Big Meadows Reservoir in the San Juan Mountains of south-central Colorado. The campground features 42 sites arranged in three loops, with 23 reservable sites and 19 first-come, first-served sites during the main season. Located in a sub-alpine region at 9,500 feet elevation, the campground is lightly wooded with spruce trees, aspens, and abundant wildflowers that thrive from the area's higher rainfall and snowmelt. The 600-acre Big Meadows Reservoir is a no-wake lake offering fishing for rainbow, brown, and brook trout, with an accessible fishing pier on the north shore. A boat ramp is available for small watercraft and trolling motors. Hikers and horseback riders can access the 6-mile Archuleta Trail, which leads into the Weminuche Wilderness, Colorado's largest wilderness area. The nearby Cascade Falls Trail offers a shorter quarter-mile hike. The surrounding Rio Grande National Forest provides access to world-class attractions including Great Sand Dunes National Park, the Continental Divide Trail, and numerous hiking trails throughout the Sangre de Cristo and San Juan mountain ranges. Each campsite includes a fire ring and picnic table, and the maximum spur length is 60 feet, though not all sites accommodate vehicles of that size.

From South Fork, Colorado, take Highway 160 for 13 miles west, turn onto Forest Road 410 SW, and go 1.8 miles to Big Meadows Campground.
