About

East Fork Campground is located on a ridge above the East Fork of the San Juan River in San Juan National Forest, approximately 11 miles northeast of Pagosa Springs just off Highway 160. At an elevation of 7,700 feet, this campground tends to be warmer than many surrounding higher-elevation campgrounds in the area. The campground features 26 single-family campsites, with 17 sites available for advance reservation through Recreation.gov and 9 sites available on a first-come, first-served basis. Several sites offer views of the river below, though it's a considerable distance down the hillside. A few level pull-through sites accommodate RVs up to 35 feet. The campground is shaded by a forest of ponderosa pine and gambel oak trees, providing a pleasant setting for summer camping. Recreational opportunities include fishing in the East Fork upstream from the campground, with short but steep trails leading down from the ridge to the riverbanks. Hikers can access the Coal Creek Trail and Quartz Ridge Trail from trailheads at Sand Creek, located 2-5 miles beyond the campground. Nearby attractions include Silver Falls, accessible by a short trail a few miles up East Fork Road, and Treasure Falls, an impressive 100-foot waterfall located about five miles from the campground just off Highway 160. The upper section of East Fork Road beyond its junction with Forest Road 684 requires 4WD and is popular with off-road vehicle enthusiasts traveling to Elwood Pass.

Directions

From downtown Pagosa Springs, travel 11 miles east on Highway 160 to the junction with East Fork Road (Forest Road 667). Turn right and continue less than a mile to the campground on the right.
