About

Silver Falls Guard Station is a historic Forest Service building situated along the East Fork of the San Juan River in the San Juan National Forest, east of Pagosa Springs in Mineral County, Colorado. Built as part of the early 20th century forest administration infrastructure, this old guard station now serves primarily as a landmark and orientation point for visitors accessing the nearby Silver Falls. The trail to Silver Falls begins behind the guard station and follows a short but steep route of approximately 1/8 mile to the base of the scenic waterfall. The area sits at an elevation of around 8,200 feet in a forested mountain setting. Access to the area requires driving Forest Service roads, with high-clearance 4x4 vehicles recommended due to potential water crossings along the route. The site provides basic facilities including a vault toilet. No potable water is available on site, so visitors should bring their own water supply. The remote location offers limited to no cell phone service.
