About

Big Arm Unit is part of Flathead Lake State Park and sits on Big Arm Bay along the western shore of Flathead Lake, Montana's largest natural freshwater lake. Located 15 miles north of Polson on U.S. Highway 93, the park offers spectacular views of the Mission and Swan mountain ranges. The campground features 41 campsites nestled among mature ponderosa pines and junipers, including one wheelchair accessible site, one group campsite, and three yurts. The maximum RV/trailer length is 40 feet. Bear resistant storage lockers are available throughout the campground. The park's long pebble beach is popular with swimmers and sunbathers, while the boat launch provides access to Flathead Lake for fishing, sailing, water skiing, and boating. Big Arm is a popular departure point for trips to Wild Horse Island, a 2,163-acre island that is also part of Flathead Lake State Park. Fishing opportunities include lake trout, whitefish, yellow perch, cutthroat trout, bull trout, and kokanee salmon. A hiking trail offers excellent vistas and wildlife viewing opportunities. The park also features a newly developed public archery range across the highway. The park is located within the Flathead Indian Reservation, and tribal permits are required for activities outside the park boundaries.
