Bellevue State Park campground is located in the Dyas Unit, the only overnight camping area within this 770-acre park perched 250 feet above the Mississippi River. The campground offers 46 sites including electric (30/50-amp), full hookup, non-electric, and walk-to tent sites. Modern amenities include restrooms with showers, drinking water hydrants, and a sanitary dump station. Each campsite comes equipped with a fire ring and picnic table. The park is rich in archaeological and natural history, featuring three miles of trails with stunning overlooks of the Mississippi River valley and restored prairie. The Nelson Unit houses a nature center and the renowned Butterfly Garden, home to nearly 60 butterfly species from spring through fall. The paved Nelson Unit Trail provides accessible hiking to the garden area. All campsites require advance reservations through Iowa's online reservation system. Check-in is at 4:00 p.m. and check-out at 3:00 p.m. Weekend stays from May through October require a minimum two-night reservation, with three nights required on major holiday weekends.
