About

Bellevue State Park's Dyas Unit campground offers one of Jackson County's most scenic camping experiences perched atop 250-foot limestone bluffs overlooking the Upper Mississippi River Wildlife Refuge. The campground features 46 sites including 30 electric sites, 1 full hookup site, 5 non-electric sites, and 9 walk-to sites accommodating RVs, trailers, and tents. Sites can handle RVs up to 55 feet with both back-in and pull-through options available. The park is split into two units. The Dyas Unit contains the campground and nearly four miles of hiking trails ranging from the easy Deer Trail to more challenging routes leading to scenic overlooks and a stream with diverse aquatic life. The nearby Nelson Unit features a butterfly garden with almost 60 species, a nature center, and trails to historical sites including Indian mounds dating to the Middle Woodland Culture. Modern amenities include restrooms with showers (seasonal), a dump station, picnic shelters with river views, and playgrounds. The campground is entirely reservable during peak season April through October. Winter visitors can spot bald eagles feeding near Lock and Dam 12. Located three miles south of Bellevue off Highway 52, the park provides easy access to the historic river town and Dubuque 21 miles north.

Directions

From Bellevue, take Highway 52 south for 3 miles. Turn right onto 429th Avenue (gravel road), then take the first right into the park. Campground is at the top of the hill on the left.
