About
Bee Run Campground is a quiet, primitive campground managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on Sutton Lake in central West Virginia. Located just three miles off Interstate 79 at the Flatwoods exit, the campground offers 12 non-electric sites suitable for RVs, travel trailers, and tents. Sites are pull-through style, each equipped with a fire ring, picnic table, and lantern post. A volunteer campground host provides on-site presence, and security lighting is available throughout.
The campground sits atop a hill with scenic views of West Virginia's rolling hills and abundant wildlife rather than direct lake views. Facilities are basic: vault toilets are provided, but there is no potable water, showers, or hookups. Campers must pack out all trash. The campground operates first-come, first-served with no advance reservations and a 14-day stay limit per 30-day period.
Sutton Lake offers motorized boating, water skiing, and fishing for largemouth and smallmouth bass and crappie. The nearby Bee Run Day Use Area features a free swimming beach, boat launch, playground, and the Sutton Lake Marina with a ship store. The surrounding Elk River Wildlife Management Area provides hiking and biking trails, including the Jeremiah Carpenter Trail leading to scenic views of Sutton Dam.
Directions
From Interstate 79, take the Flatwoods exit. The campground is approximately 3 miles from the interstate on Bee Run Road.
