About
Basin Campground is situated in the Custer Gallatin National Forest of south-central Montana, at an elevation of 7,000 feet. The campground encompasses 7 acres and offers 30 campsites suitable for tents, trailers, and RVs. Each site includes a parking spur ranging from 22 to 45 feet, a table, fire ring, and grill. Drinking water is available from hand pumps, and vault toilets are provided. Trash collection services are also available on-site. The campground operates from May 19 to September 19, with a maximum recommended trailer length of 30 feet. Pets are welcome but must be kept on leashes. Several trailheads are accessible from the campground, offering opportunities for hiking and wildlife viewing. Fishing is available along the nearby West Fork of Rock Creek. The area is a popular location for hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, hunting, and fishing. Fishing is a popular activity along the West Fork of Rock Creek and at nearby Wild Bill Lake. The small lake is open to kayaking and canoeing, and an accessible fishing dock is located on the shore. Mountain bikers enjoy the Ingles Creek Trail and a variety of loop trails at Silver Run. You can also ride your mountain bike on Basin Lakes Trail.
Directions
From US Hwy 212 (Beartooth Scenic Byway), travel to the south end of Red Lodge. Turn west on West Fork Rock Creek Road (Forest Road 2071), and proceed approximately 7 miles to the campground entrance on the right.
