About
Basin Campground sits at 3,400 feet elevation in the Angeles National Forest, within the boundaries of the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument in Los Angeles County, California. This small primitive campground features 15 campsites designed for tent camping in a mountain forest setting. The campground is currently closed and has been removed from active Forest Service recreation listings. When operational, it provided basic amenities typical of Forest Service primitive campgrounds in the Angeles National Forest. The site is located in a remote area of the forest, away from the more popular developed campgrounds along Angeles Crest Highway. Visitors interested in camping in this area should consider nearby alternatives such as Mt. Pacifico Campground or Messenger Flats Campground, both of which offer primitive camping with vault toilets and are accessible via Santa Clara Divide Road.
Directions
From US Hwy 212 (Beartooth Scenic Byway), travel to the south end of Red Lodge. Turn west on West Fork Rock Creek Road (Forest Road 2071), and proceed approximately 7 miles to the campground entrance on the right.
