About

Al Taylor Cabin is a rustic rental cabin located adjacent to Steel Creek near the Continental Divide in the Caribou-Targhee National Forest at an elevation of 6,300 feet. This historic cabin, surrounded by large Douglas fir trees, offers visitors beautiful scenery and solitude near both Camas Meadows and the Continental Divide. The cabin accommodates up to six people and features wooden bunk beds, a wood cook stove, and a wood fireplace for heating. It has propane lights but no electricity. Inside, guests will find a small dining table with four chairs. Outside amenities include a fire ring, charcoal grill, picnic tables, a vault toilet, and bear-resistant garbage containers. Water is available at the nearby Steel Creek Campground. Visitors enjoy access to an extensive OHV trail system directly from the cabin, small streams with brook trout fishing opportunities, and miles of hiking and horseback riding trails. The historic Camas Meadows Battlefield on the Nez Perce National Historic Trail is located nearby. The area is grizzly and black bear habitat, and all food must be stored according to forest service food storage orders.
