About

Aholul Group Campground is located in the San Joaquin River Gorge Special Recreation Management Area, a scenic BLM property straddling the San Joaquin River upstream from Millerton Lake. The campground offers dramatic sunset views and is designed specifically for large groups, with two walk-in tent sites that can accommodate up to 300 people combined. The facility features a large paved parking area that can handle large trailers and motorhomes, though the actual campsites are walk-in only, reached via a primitive hardened path from the parking lot. The area is most enjoyable during fall, winter, and spring seasons when temperatures are moderate. The San Joaquin River Gorge offers extensive recreational opportunities including hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian trails, as well as access to class III-V whitewater rapids on the San Joaquin River. The nearby visitor center and Nuckahee Learning Center provide educational programs about the area's natural and cultural history, including the Indigenous peoples who historically inhabited the region.
