About

Aholul Group Campground sits within the San Joaquin River Gorge Special Recreation Management Area, a scenic BLM property straddling the San Joaquin River upstream from Millerton Lake. The campground is designed for large group gatherings and consists of two walk-in tent sites with a combined capacity of 300 people. Reservations are required and must be made by contacting the BLM directly, as the campground is not bookable through Recreation.gov. The facility includes a large paved parking lot that can accommodate trailers and motor homes, with accessible campsites reached via a primitive hardened path close to parking. Drinking water and garbage receptacles are available on-site, but electricity is not provided. The site is known for its dramatic sunset views over the gorge. Visitors have access to the broader recreation area's amenities including the visitor center, over 20 miles of multi-use trails for hiking and biking, and wildlife viewing opportunities. Leave No Trace and Tread Lightly principles are encouraged. Some organized group activities may require a Special Recreation Permit in addition to the standard campground fee.
