About

Millerton Lake Horse Campground is a dedicated equestrian camping facility within Millerton Lake State Recreation Area, situated on the North Shore in Madera County. The campground offers three horse stalls equipped with a water trough, making it ideal for campers traveling with horses. The site provides ample parking space to accommodate both RVs and trailers, along with a shade structure for comfort during hot summer days. The campground is equipped with a chemical toilet and is located near the Valley Oak and Meadows campground loops, providing convenient access to additional park amenities. The region enjoys a temperate climate with warm springs, hot summers, and cool winters, making it suitable for year-round camping. Campers can access nearby trails for equestrian use, including the developing San Joaquin Trail that will eventually provide extended hiking, biking, and equestrian access through the park. Millerton Lake itself offers excellent recreational opportunities including boating, fishing, and water sports. The lake is nestled in the Sierra Nevada foothills approximately 15 miles east of Fresno. Standard camping rates apply, with check-in at 2:00 PM and check-out at noon. Quiet hours are observed from 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM. Campfires are permitted in designated fire rings only, and campers must bring their own firewood as gathering is prohibited within the park.
