About

Millerton Lake Horse Campground provides dedicated equestrian camping facilities at Millerton Lake State Recreation Area in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Located on the North Shore in Madera County, the campground offers three horse stalls equipped with water troughs, allowing riders to keep their horses comfortably stabled during their stay. The primitive facilities include a chemical toilet and shade structure, with ample parking space to accommodate horse trailers and RVs. The surrounding area offers excellent trail riding opportunities, with five established trails winding through the rolling foothills above the lake. Millerton Lake itself spans approximately 47 miles of shoreline, created by Friant Dam on the San Joaquin River. The landscape features blue oak woodlands and grasslands typical of the Central Valley foothills, providing scenic riding terrain. Campers are responsible for mucking out stalls and cleaning up after their horses. Reservations can be made through ReserveCalifornia.com or by calling (800) 444-7275. The campground is grouped with the year-round facilities at the park, distinguishing it from seasonal loops that operate April through September.
