The National Weather Service in Pendleton has issued a Fire Weather Watch for wind and low relative humidity, which is in effect from Saturday morning through Saturday evening. * AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zones 701 Eastern Columbia River Gorge of Oregon and 702 East Slopes of the Mt. Hood National Forest. * TIMING...From Saturday morning through Saturday evening. * WINDS...West 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 17 percent. * IMPACTS...Any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly. The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality and the Lane Regional Air Protection Agency have continued an Air Quality Advisory, which is IN EFFECT UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. An Air Quality Advisory for Smoke remains in effect. Wildfires burning in the region combined with forecasted conditions will cause air quality to reach unhealthy levels at times until further notice. Pollutants in smoke can cause burning eyes, runny nose, aggravate heart and lung diseases, and aggravate other serious health problems. Limit outdoor activities and keep children indoors if it is smoky. Please follow medical advice if you have a heart or lung condition. About
Sherwood Campground is a small, easily accessible campground located on the East Fork Hood River in Mount Hood National Forest. The campground features 16 sites, including 13 tent-only sites and 3 RV sites, all with gravel driveways and back-in configurations. Several riverfront sites offer prime positioning along the Hood River, where the sound of rushing water creates a peaceful retreat from nearby highway traffic. The campground is operated by Lost Lake Resort as a concessionaire and offers basic facilities including vault toilets centrally located within the campground. There is no potable water, hookups, or dump station available. The wheelchair-accessible campground serves as an excellent base camp for exploring the upper Hood River Valley, with Tamanawas Falls trailhead just a few hundred feet walk along Highway 35 and Mt. Hood only 15 minutes away by car. Reservations are available through Recreation.gov, though some sites operate on a first-come, first-served basis. A camp host is available during peak season. The vehicle length limit is 16 feet maximum, making this campground best suited for tents and smaller camping vehicles.
Directions
From I-84 at Hood River, head south on Highway 35 toward Mt. Hood. Continue approximately 3-4 miles past the forest boundary. The campground is on the right, just past the Tamanawas Falls trailhead parking.
