Hydrologic Outlook issued September 19 at 11:59AM MDT by NWS Riverton WY
ESFRIW Periods of showers and thunderstorms are expected across the northern half of Wyoming Saturday and Sunday as a wet weather system shifts east across the state. This weather system is funneling abundant tropical moisture into northern and eastern portions of the state with it's eastward progression. Given the high moisture content, many thunderstorms could feature heavy rainfall and possibly lead to localized flooding. Poor drainage areas, urban areas, and steep terrain will be the most susceptible locations for this isolated flooding. Many locations could see an additional 0.5" to 1.25" of rain through Sunday afternoon, with a majority of this rain falling quickly in thunderstorms. Remember, if you encounter a flooded roadway, turn around don't down!
About
Mammoth Campground is uniquely positioned as Yellowstone's only campground open year-round, making it a valuable option for winter visitors and shoulder-season travelers. Located in a high sagebrush steppe at 6,200 feet elevation, the campground provides easy access to the Mammoth Hot Springs terraces, historic Fort Yellowstone, and excellent wildlife viewing throughout the seasons. The 82 standard nonelectric sites accommodate tents and RVs, with some sites fitting combined vehicle lengths up to 75 feet during peak season, though winter limits drop to 30 feet total. Pull-through and back-in sites are available, with limited width for slide-outs and potentially unlevel surfaces. Five ADA-accessible campsites serve visitors with mobility needs. Amenities include flush toilets (year-round, though limited in winter), potable water spigots, dump station, trash and recycling collection, food storage lockers, and seasonal firewood sales. No showers are available on-site, though accessible shower facilities can be found in nearby Gardiner, Montana. Wood and charcoal fires are permitted in fire grates unless fire restrictions are in effect.
