About

Half Moon Lake Campground occupies a scenic spot just off the northeast shore of Half Moon Lake at 7,600 feet elevation in the Bridger-Teton National Forest. The lake was carved by glacial movements and is now surrounded by the foothills of the Wind River Mountains, with lodgepole pine, Douglas-fir, and aspen stands interspersed with sagebrush and rocky outcroppings. Heavy willow stands between the 17 sites provide excellent privacy, while an aspen overstory offers welcome shade. This is a primitive campground with unpaved access roads. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Two vault toilets serve the campground, with additional facilities near the boat launch half a mile away. No potable water is available; campers must bring their own or treat water from the lake. Proper food storage is required due to bear activity. Recreation opportunities abound. Anglers target rainbow trout, brown trout, and lake trout. The lake is open to both motorized and non-motorized boating, with a boat launch and dock nearby. Swimming, canoeing, and paddleboarding are popular from the campground beach. An excellent hiking trail suitable for all abilities lies two miles down the gravel road.
