Special Weather Statement issued April 1 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Raleigh NC
The combination of low relative humidity, gusty winds, and very dry fuels will lead to an increased risk of wildfires Thursday across central North Carolina. Residents and visitors are urged to properly dispose of cigarette butts, matches, and any other flammable items in appropriate containers. Additionally, exercise caution if operating any equipment that could create sparks, and keep vehicles off of dry leaves and grass. Most dry grasses, dead leaves, and other tree litter could easily ignite and spread fire quickly. A statewide burn ban issued by the North Carolina Forest Service is currently in place. Open burning of any kind is illegal.

About
King's Mountain Point Picnic Pavilion is located at the King's Mountain Point Day Use Area on the shores of Badin Lake in the Uwharrie National Forest. The pavilion sits on a hilltop overlooking this 5,350-acre impoundment of the Yadkin River, built in 1917 by ALCOA for hydroelectric power generation. The lake is well-stocked with catfish, bream, largemouth, white, and striped bass. The day use area features four accessible fishing piers (currently one floating pier is under renovation with completion expected in Spring 2027), a 9-hole disc golf course, and 34 picnic sites with grills and tables scattered throughout the point. A 0.5-mile paved, accessible trail circles the day use area, offering splendid views of the lake. The Badin Lake Hiking Trail also connects through this area. The peninsula is forested by mixed hardwoods and pines, providing shade and natural beauty. The pavilion is positioned in a large field bordered by trees, opposite the main day use area entrance. Paved parking for 50 cars is available, and the site is accessible from NC Highway 109 via paved and gravel forest roads.
