About
Ochoco Forest Camp sits at the edge of Big Summit Prairie in the Ochoco National Forest, surrounded by old-growth ponderosa pine and near the distinctive rock formations of Lookout Mountain. The campground provides a quiet base for exploring the area, with individual campsites featuring fire rings with grills and picnic tables. A hand pump provides drinking water, and vault toilets serve the campground. The location offers excellent access to outdoor recreation. Lookout Mountain Trail (#804) climbs to panoramic views of the Cascades and spring wildflower meadows, open to hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. Nearby Walton Lake provides fishing for stocked rainbow trout, swimming, and paddling. The Big Summit wild horse herd roams the surrounding prairie and is commonly seen near the campground. A reservable group pavilion accommodates large gatherings with a covered shelter, group fire ring with BBQ, and horseshoe pits. The pavilion has electrical power for event use but no RV hookups are available anywhere in the campground.
