About
Kanga Bay Cabin overlooks a secluded cove off Redoubt Bay on Baranof Island in the Tongass National Forest. Built in 1998 by local volunteers and renovated in recent years, this rustic 15' x 17' Pan Abode style cabin offers an authentic remote Alaska experience. The cabin features a sleeping loft reached by staircase, a small front deck with southeast-facing views, and a mooring buoy for secure anchorage. The cabin is located just above a sloping sand-pebble beach, surrounded by dense spruce and hemlock forest. Visitors can enjoy kayaking in the protected bay, fishing for sockeye and coho salmon at Redoubt Lake (30 minutes away by boat during August), and wildlife viewing opportunities including deer, brown bear, and various seabirds. Goddard Hot Springs is approximately 20 minutes south by boat, offering public soaking pools on a first-come, first-served basis. Access requires a 10-minute floatplane ride or 40-minute boat ride from Sitka. Visitors must be self-sufficient and bring their own supplies, including drinking water. The cabin accommodates up to 6 people and is available year-round, weather permitting.
