About

Wilson View Cabin sits on the north shore of Wilson Lake, a long and narrow glacially carved lake surrounded by rugged mountain peaks and evergreen forest, approximately 44 air miles east of Ketchikan. Built in 1977, this rustic 12x14-ft pan-abode style log cabin is located within the Misty Fjords National Monument Wilderness and offers a true backcountry Alaskan experience. The cabin accommodates up to 6 people with 2 single bunks and 2 double bunks, and features a table with benches, cooking counter, food storage, cleaning equipment, and a tiny woodstove for heat. The remote location makes Wilson View Cabin an excellent base for fishing, wildlife viewing, and exploring the pristine wilderness. Wilson Lake is renowned for excellent cutthroat trout, Dolly Varden, and kokanee salmon fishing, particularly at the lake outlet. A 14-foot aluminum skiff with oars is provided for rowing around the lake. Wildlife is abundant in the area, with common sightings of mountain goats, Sitka black-tailed deer, black bears, and brown bears, as well as various bird species. This is a primitive cabin with no electricity, indoor plumbing, or cell phone coverage. Visitors must bring their own drinking water, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, cooking gear, lanterns, food, and firewood. An outhouse is located nearby. Access is by floatplane only, and helicopter access is prohibited within this designated Wilderness area. During fall, winter, and early spring, the cabin may be inaccessible when the lake surface freezes, preventing floatplane landings.
