About
Wilson View Cabin sits within the Misty Fjords National Monument Wilderness on the shore of Wilson Lake, a long narrow body of water carved by glaciers and surrounded by rugged mountain peaks and evergreen forest. The 12x14-ft Pan Abode log cabin was built in 1977 and sleeps up to six people on two single and two double bunks. A tiny wood stove provides heat, and the cabin includes a cooking counter, table with benches, shelves, and cupboard space. A 14-foot aluminum skiff with oars is provided for exploring the lake, though visitors must bring their own life jackets. Wilson Lake offers excellent fishing for cutthroat trout, Dolly Varden, and kokanee salmon, particularly at the lake outlet. Wildlife in the area includes mountain goat, Sitka black-tailed deer, and both black and brown bears. This is a primitive backcountry cabin with no electricity, indoor plumbing, or cell phone coverage. Visitors must bring all supplies including sleeping bags, cooking gear, drinking water, firewood or biobricks, and garbage bags for packing out trash. An outhouse is located nearby. Access is by float plane only; helicopter access is prohibited in this Wilderness area.
Directions
Approximately 44 air miles east of Ketchikan on the mainland, north of Wilson Arm at the north end of Wilson Lake. Accessible by float plane only. Helicopter access is illegal in this designated Wilderness area. Refer to USGS maps Ketchikan B-2 and C-2.
