About

Badger Flat Campground is a quiet, lightly-used High Sierra campground located along Kaiser Pass Road about 5 miles above Huntington Lake. At over 8,000 feet elevation, the 15 first-come, first-served sites are positioned along a large sandy area adjacent to Rancheria Creek, shaded by fir trees. Each site includes a grill, fire ring, and table. Vault toilets are available, but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. The campground offers trailhead access to Kaiser Wilderness and connects to the California Riding and Hiking Trail, making it an excellent basecamp for backcountry exploration. Rancheria Creek has a sandy area suitable for wading. This is bear country, so proper food storage is required. Huntington Lake is approximately 5 miles away and offers hiking, horseback riding, biking, canoeing, sailing, fishing, windsurfing, and swimming. Anglers can pursue rainbow trout, brown trout, or kokanee salmon. Nearby services at Huntington Lake include China Peak Landing General Store, Lakeshore Resort, and Rancheria Enterprises. Cell service is limited to the lake area.

Directions

From Clovis, take Highway 168 east through Shaver Lake to Huntington Lake. At the lake's east end, turn right on Kaiser Pass Road near Eastwood Visitor Center. Travel 5.1 miles up Kaiser Pass Road to Badger Flat Campground.
