About

Sample Meadow Campground sits at the edge of the Kaiser and Ansel Adams Wilderness areas in Sierra National Forest, providing access to some of the most scenic backcountry in the High Sierra. The 16 campsites are dispersed along Kaiser Creek, offering a quiet, lightly-used setting for tent camping and horse camping. This is a primitive, no-fee campground with vault toilets but no potable water or garbage service. Campers must bring all water and pack out all trash. Each site is equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and bear box for food storage. Large RVs and motorhomes are not recommended due to the narrow access road and limited site size. The nearby Sample Meadow Trailhead, approximately half a mile from the campground, provides access to wilderness hiking. The closest services for gas, groceries, and supplies are at Huntington Lake, about 13 miles back down the road.

Directions

From Highway 168 in Huntington Lake, turn right on Kaiser Pass Road (Forest Road 5S80). Travel 9.7 miles, then turn left on road 7S05 and continue 3 miles to the campground.
