About

Princess Campground occupies a scenic 87 acres in the Indian Basin Grove at 5,900 feet elevation within the Giant Sequoia National Monument. The campground's three loops—Shining Cloud, Yellow Moon, and Morning Star—contain 90 sites including 19 tent-only sites, all nestled among a remarkable concentration of ancient sequoia stumps and regenerating young sequoias. A pleasant variety of conifers provides consistent shade and fair to good privacy between sites. The campground sits adjacent to Indian Basin Meadow and Creek, with the Indian Basin Grove Interpretive Trail beginning just outside the entrance. This accessible paved half-mile loop, with an additional half-mile extension, winds through the grove and meadow. Nearby Hume Lake (3 miles) offers fishing, non-motorized boating, and the 2.6-mile Hume Lake Loop trail with interpretive signs. Princess serves as an excellent base for exploring Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks, Boyden Caverns, and General Grant Grove. The campground operates under a concessionaire permit managed by ExplorUS. Campfire talks and guided hikes are offered most weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Bear country food storage regulations are strictly enforced.
