Bluff Mesa Group Campground offers a secluded mountain camping experience in the San Bernardino National Forest, situated in a peaceful mixed conifer forest with a grassy understory. Located approximately 10 miles from Big Bear Lake at an elevation of 7,600 feet, the campground provides a cool retreat during summer months with mature trees offering ample shade. The single group site is well-equipped for gatherings of up to 40 people, featuring five picnic tables, a double pedestal grill, and a group campfire circle. Vault toilets are provided on-site. This is a primitive camping experience with no potable water, hookups, or trash service available, so campers must come prepared with their own water supply and pack out all waste. Access to the campground requires navigating dirt Forest Service roads, specifically Forest Road 2N10 to Forest Road 2N86. A standard SUV, 4x4, or high-clearance vehicle is necessary. Nearby recreational opportunities include hiking and mountain biking trails, rock climbing routes, and fishing, boating, and swimming at Big Bear Lake. The Big Bear Discovery Center, located about 10 miles away, offers interpretive programs and visitor services.

Directions

Take I-10 east to Running Springs. Turn onto State Highway 18 and continue to Big Bear Lake Dam. Turn right and continue for 3 miles. Turn onto Tulip Lane and turn right on Mill Creek Road (Forest Road 2N10). Continue 4 miles and turn right on Forest Road 2N86 and continue to the campground.
