About
Meeks Bay Resort occupies a historic site on Lake Tahoe's west shore, approximately 10 miles south of Tahoe City and 8 miles north of Emerald Bay. The Washoe Tribe of California and Nevada operates the facility under a USFS special use permit, maintaining strong cultural ties to the area they call mayála wáťa. The resort sits at 6,225 feet elevation with direct access to a sandy beach on the azure waters of Lake Tahoe. The campground portion includes 54 non-electric tent sites spread across the southern side of Meeks Creek, accommodating tents and small pop-up trailers up to 20 feet. North of the creek, 23 RV sites offer full hookups (water, electric, sewer), with several pull-through sites accommodating rigs up to 60 feet. All campsites include fire rings and picnic tables, with bear boxes for food storage. Flush restrooms are distributed throughout, and hot showers are available via token purchase. Beyond camping, the resort features the historic Kehlet Mansion, Washoe House, 12 lodges, and 7 standalone cabins. The main lodge houses a camp store with supplies, clothing, and souvenirs, while the Wa She Shu Grill serves breakfast and lunch. Recreation options include swimming, kayak and paddleboard rentals, and access to the Meeks Bay Trail leading into Desolation Wilderness toward Phipps Pass.
