White River National Forest

Wheeled Vehicles in Wilderness

This order describes the prohibition of wheeled vehicles in all National Forest Wilderness Areas of the Rocky Mountain Region and any exceptions thereof.

About

Blue River Campground is located 10 minutes north of Silverthorne on Highway 9 in White River National Forest, positioned along the Blue River between Lake Dillon and Green Mountain Reservoir. The campground features 24 standard sites suitable for tents and smaller trailers, with back-in access and compact site dimensions. Each site is equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and bear box for food storage. The campground's riverside location makes it a prime spot for anglers pursuing rainbow and brown trout in the Blue River. River access is exclusive to paid campers. Boating, kayaking, paddleboarding, and extensive hiking trails are available within a short drive in either direction. The area sits in the heart of the Rocky Mountains within the 2.3 million-acre White River National Forest. Vault toilets are provided, but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own. Site access can become difficult when wet, and temporary closures may occur due to flooding conditions. Two pets are allowed per site and must remain leashed at all times. Fire restrictions may be imposed during hot, dry conditions.

Directions

From I-70, take Exit 205 (Silverthorne/Dillon) and travel north on Highway 9 for approximately 6 miles. The campground entrance is on the right side of the highway. From Kremmling, take Highway 40 to Highway 9 South and travel 30 miles, then turn left onto Forest Road 1877 at Blue River Campground.
