Indian Cove Group Campground lies amid the massive, steep rock formations for which Joshua Tree National Park is famous. The 13 group sites are tucked into a flat, sandy landscape surrounded by boulders that tower overhead in unique shapes, softening to pastel hues at sunrise and sunset. At 3,200 feet elevation, Indian Cove stays warmer than the park's higher-elevation campgrounds, drawing rock climbers who appreciate both the temperature and proximity to numerous routes. The campground is accessed via Indian Cove Road off Highway 62, separate from the main park entrance. No park entrance fee is charged to access Indian Cove, though the $30 entrance fee applies if entering the main park. There is no potable water at the campground; a water filling station and emergency phone are located at the ranger station approximately two miles north. Vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire grates are provided at each site. Reservations are required year-round and can be made through Recreation.gov up to six months in advance. Clear desert skies make this an excellent location for stargazing and night photography. Several hiking trails depart from the campground, including a short interpretive nature trail.

Directions

Take Interstate 10 to State Highway 62. Go past the West Entrance at Park Boulevard and continue east another 9.3 miles. Turn south on Indian Cove Road and follow it into the campground. From the east, follow Highway 62 approximately seven miles west of Twentynine Palms and turn south onto Indian Cove Road.
