About
Madrone Cove Boat-in Campground is a remote, primitive camping experience on the scenic Bullards Bar Reservoir in Tahoe National Forest. Located on the west shore of the reservoir approximately 5 miles from Dark Day Boat Ramp, the campground is accessible only by watercraft. The 10 single-family sites are shaded by conifer and hardwood forests and provide a peaceful escape from the more accessible shoreline areas. Bullards Bar Reservoir spans over 4,760 acres with more than 60 miles of shoreline at an elevation of 2,000 feet. The steep slopes limit swimming access from shore, but boaters can find numerous swimming spots around the reservoir. Year-round fishing is available for both warm and cold water species. The nearby trail system includes Bullards Bar Trail (14 miles), 7 Ball Trail (1 mile), 8 Ball Trail (3.8 miles), Rebel Ridge Trail (1.6 miles), and Schoolhouse Trail (0.7 miles). Facilities are basic with vault toilets but no potable water. Campers must treat or filter water from the reservoir or bring their own supply. Supplies are available at Emerald Cove Marina or in the nearby communities of Camptonville, North San Juan, and Dobbins.
Directions
From Camptonville, drive south on Highway 49 to Marysville Road and turn right. Continue 5 miles to Dark Day Boat Launch. The campground is 5 miles northwest of Dark Day Boat Ramp on the west shore of Bullards Bar Reservoir and is accessible only by boat. Alternatively, launch from Emerald Cove Marina approximately 7 miles down Marysville Road.
