About
Youngs Creek Campground is a primitive horse camp in the Hoosier National Forest designed primarily for equestrians but welcoming to all campers. The campground features 14 free, non-electric campsites divided into two areas: sites 1-7 on the south end offer a shady, wooded setting with high line posts, picnic tables, and fire rings, while sites 8-14 are situated in an open grassy area also equipped with hitching posts. A picnic shelter with tables is located across from the vault toilet facility. The campground provides non-potable water through two frost-free hydrants, so campers should bring drinking water or treatment methods. As a primitive facility, there are no hookups, showers, or trash collection. The main attraction is direct access to the 12.7-mile Youngs Creek multiple-use trail system, which winds through scenic hardwood forests and varied terrain ideal for horseback riding, mountain biking, and hiking. Youngs Creek operates as a first-come, first-served campground with free camping year-round, though the facility is typically closed during winter months. Campers must follow Hoosier National Forest firewood requirements and should not bring firewood from outside the area to prevent the spread of invasive pests.
