Conditions will improve after sunset as winds slowly decrease and relative humidity values increase.
About
O'Bannon Woods State Park (formerly Wyandotte Woods State Recreation Area) lies in the central and extreme southern part of Indiana, bordering the Ohio River and nestled inside the 2,400-acre Harrison Crawford State Forest. The property is managed separately from the state forest but shares the landscape with Wyandotte Caves State Recreation Area. The park was the location of one of the few African-American Civilian Conservation Corps units, CCC Company 517: Camp Wyandotte, and features a uniquely restored, working haypress barn complete with oxen for power and a pioneer farmstead. The campground offers 281 electric campsites, 47 non-electric equestrian sites, and a 100-bed group camp with self-contained structures. Indiana's first natural and scenic river, Blue River, flows through the state park and forest, providing opportunities for fishing smallmouth bass and catfish. Wyandotte Lake is stocked with channel catfish, bluegill, and largemouth bass. The park features extensive trail systems including the Adventure Trail, Rocky Ridge Trail, and multiple mountain bike trails ranging from moderate to rugged difficulty. Wyandotte Caves offers guided tours on weekends and holidays from Memorial Day through Labor Day, showcasing underground formations including the massive Monument Mountain, helictites, gypsum, and prehistoric flint quarries. The park also includes a Family Aquatic Center, a Nature Center, picnic shelters, and a motorized wheelchair available for trails and facilities. The nearby Corydon Capitol State Historic Site provides visitors with a glimpse into early Indiana history.
