Water Unavailable at Penny Pines Trailhead Spigot
Attention Hikers: There is currently NO WATER available at the Penny Pines Trailhead. The water spigot pump is broken and there is no estimated time of repair at this time. Be prepared to bring or seek out alternative water sources.
Airport Fire Burned Area Closure
The Cleveland NF has closed the Airport Fire burned area perimeter on the Trabuco Ranger District of the Cleveland National Forest. This closure prohibits going into or being upon any National Forest System lands, roads, and trails within the boundaries of the closure.
Camping Stay Limits
This order prohibits extended camping in developed campgrounds, undeveloped areas, and maximum annual camping durations.
Cedar Creek Falls Forest Orders
Forest Order No. 02-23-02 closes the cliffs surrounding the falls, 02-23-03 requires visitors to have a permit to access the falls, 02-23-04 prohibits alcohol along the entirety of the trail system.
About
Wooded Hill Group Campground is a secluded mountain getaway in the Laguna Mountains of Cleveland National Forest, located just one hour east of San Diego. At 6,000 feet elevation, the campground offers cooler temperatures and a forested setting of pines and oaks that provide ample shade for groups of up to 110 people. The campground features one large group site with 21 RV parking spurs ranging from 20 to 40 feet in length, though no hookups are available. Amenities include picnic tables, vault toilets, and a large fire circle perfect for group gatherings. The nearest dump station is at Buckman Springs Rest Area on I-8, about 4 miles east of Pine Valley. The Laguna Mountains offer exceptional opportunities for horseback riding, mountain biking, and hiking. The campground provides access to the 2,650-mile Pacific Crest Trail, which runs from Mexico to Canada. The nearby Wooded Hill Nature Trail, accessible just west of the campground off Sunrise Scenic Byway, ascends to the highest wooded point on Laguna Mountain, offering sweeping views of San Diego, Point Loma, and the Channel Islands on clear days. Other nearby trails include Aqua Dulce Trailhead and the Big Laguna Trail System. The drive along Sunrise Highway itself is a scenic experience, weaving through pristine mountain meadows and amazing vistas.
Directions
Located 50 miles east of San Diego. Take I-8 to the Sunrise Highway exit. Go approximately 8.1 miles north and turn west onto Wooded Hill Road.
