About

Laguna Campground is a substantial 91-site facility in the Laguna Mountain Recreation Area of Cleveland National Forest, about 50 miles east of San Diego via I-8 and Sunrise Highway. At 6,000 feet elevation, the campground offers a cooler alternative to San Diego's coastal heat, shaded by a mixed forest of pines and oaks with an adjacent meadow. The campground is organized into five loops: Meadow, Shady, Sunny, Roadside (for RVs 30+ feet only), and Walk-In sites. Amenities include flush restrooms, coin-operated showers (mid-May through early October), potable water, and campfire rings at each site. One site meets ADA accessibility standards. Part of the campground is fenced to protect habitat for the endangered Laguna Skipper butterfly. Nearby Little Laguna Lake makes an excellent short hiking destination. The Big Laguna Trail passes the lake with abundant wildflowers in spring, and the Pacific Crest Trail is accessible from the campground. San Diego State University hosts Star Parties at the observatory most summer Saturday evenings.

Directions

Located 50 miles east of San Diego. Take I-8 to the Sunrise Highway exit, then drive approximately 15 miles north to the campground, just beyond mile marker 26. Stop at the entrance station for site assignment.
