About

Willard Brook State Forest campground occupies a peaceful corner of this 2,597-acre forest straddling the towns of Ashby and Townsend, about 50 miles northwest of Boston. The 19 campsites are spread beneath a mature pine canopy, offering a mix of tent and small RV/trailer sites. A standout feature is the large canvas-sided yurt that accommodates up to 10 people with bunk beds, tables, chairs, and access to water and electricity. Facilities are basic but well-maintained: flush toilets serve the campground, though there are no showers. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring with grate, and access to drinking water. No hookups or dump station are available, making this better suited to tent campers and small self-contained units. Trailers longer than 20 feet may have difficulty maneuvering into sites. The surrounding forest offers excellent recreation including swimming at Damon Pond, hiking trails through varied terrain, fishing, birding, and horseback riding. In winter, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are popular. Alcohol is prohibited at all Massachusetts state parks. Pets are welcome on leash with proof of current rabies vaccination, though they are not permitted in the yurt.
