About
White Rock Campground sits in the Tumacacori Mountains of Coronado National Forest, just a quarter mile southwest of Peña Blanca Lake. The campground takes its name from the rocky white cliffs that tower above the sites, with one large rock formation actually dividing the campground into upper and lower sections. Thirteen campsites are nestled along the banks of Peña Blanca Creek under the shade of mature oak trees, creating a pleasant desert oasis. The campground serves as a convenient base for fishing and boating at nearby Peña Blanca Lake, which allows electric trolling motors only. The area is particularly popular with visitors from Nogales and nearby Mexican communities during hot summer months, as well as during cooler months and holiday weekends when sites fill quickly. Additional dispersed camping opportunities can be found in the surrounding Peña Blanca, Alamo, and Walker Canyons. Facilities are basic but adequate, with vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings at each site. Campers must bring their own water, firewood or charcoal, and should be prepared to pack out all trash. The campground accommodates RVs up to 22 feet with no hookups available.
Directions
Exit at Ruby Road on I-19, approximately 8 miles north of Nogales. Take Ruby Road (AZ Highway 289) west about 9 miles to the campground on Forest Road 39.
