About

Weir and Johnson Campground occupies a scenic loop at 10,500 feet elevation between Weir & Johnson Reservoir and Sackett Reservoir in the Grand Mesa National Forest. The 11 campsites sit among mature Engelmann spruce, with several sites offering views of one reservoir or the other. The campground provides access to non-motorized boating and lake fishing opportunities. This is a primitive, first-come, first-served campground with vault toilets but no potable water. Campers should bring their own drinking water and insect repellent, as mosquitoes are notably abundant during the summer season. The maximum spur length of 33 feet limits accessibility for larger RVs. Firewood bundles are available for purchase on-site. The Leon Lake Trail #717 is accessible from the campground for those interested in a short day hike. Quiet hours are enforced from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Directions

From Collbran, CO, at the Access Grand Mesa sign, take County Road 58 south 1.9 miles. Turn left at the T for 5.8 miles to Forest Road #521. Note: County Road 58 becomes County Road 59. Continue straight on Forest Road #521 for about 7.2 miles to junction with Forest Road #126. Turn left at the Weir and Johnson Campground sign and go 2.8 miles to the campground.
