About

Weir and Johnson Campground is located at 10,500 feet elevation on Grand Mesa in Grand Mesa National Forest, positioned in a scenic single loop between Weir & Johnson Reservoir and Sackett Reservoir. The campground offers 11 campsites nestled among Engelmann spruce trees, with several sites providing views of the nearby reservoirs. Maximum spur length is 33 feet, accommodating smaller RVs and trailers. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis only, with no advance reservations available. Sites can be paid for on-site, potentially using the Recreation.gov mobile app Scan and Pay feature where cellular service permits. Basic amenities include vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire pits at each site. No potable water is available, so campers must bring their own supply. Firewood bundles are available for purchase at $10 each. The location provides access to over 300 alpine lakes and reservoirs across Grand Mesa, along with 700 miles of designated hiking, ATV, and horse trails. Fishing opportunities abound in the nearby reservoirs and throughout the mesa. Due to the high elevation and abundance of water, mosquitoes can be plentiful during the summer months. Wildlife is common in the area, and bear-aware food storage practices are recommended.
