About
Vega State Park is a high-elevation destination on Colorado's Grand Mesa, featuring 109 campsites spread across multiple campgrounds at approximately 8,000 feet elevation. The park surrounds Vega Reservoir, a 900-acre lake renowned for rainbow trout fishing. Early Settlers Campground offers pull-through sites with electric hookups, flush toilets, and access to the camper services building with coin-operated showers. Oak Point and Aspen Grove campgrounds provide more rustic camping with water spigots and vault facilities, while Pioneer Campground includes 10 walk-in tent sites nestled in an aspen grove. The area provides access to the broader Grand Mesa, one of the world's largest flat-top mountains, with opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing, and exploring surrounding national forest lands. Anglers can fish directly from shore or launch boats at the Island Boat Ramp. Winter transforms the area into a snowmobile and ice fishing destination, though campsites are only available during the warmer months from approximately late May through mid-November, with water systems shutting down progressively from late October.
