About

Versailles State Park, Indiana's second-largest state park, sits in the beautiful rolling hills of southeastern Indiana and offers diverse camping options across 230 acres of natural terrain. The park features 226 electric campsites distributed across three campground loops (A, B, and C), plus 9 electric equestrian sites for visitors bringing horses, a group camp, youth tent camping area, and six picnic shelters. The centerpiece is a 230-acre lake where anglers fish for bass, bluegill, catfish, and other species, while paddlers can rent rowboats, kayaks, or canoes to explore the waters. The park's extensive trail system includes over 20 miles of bridle trails for horseback riding, mountain bike trails, and multiple hiking trails ranging from easy to moderate difficulty that wind through oak, hickory, maple, and beech forests. The trails offer views of limestone sinkholes and Fallen Timber Creek. A scenic overlook at the dam provides prime wildlife viewing opportunities, especially for herons and other aquatic birds. During summer months, visitors enjoy a swimming pool with waterslide (open weekends from Memorial Day weekend, then daily from mid-June through early August). This area has deep historical roots, with fossils telling the story of an ancient sea and Civil War history from Morgan's Raiders who passed through the region. The park dedicated a Civilian Conservation Corps commemorative statue in 2010, honoring the CCC workers who built much of the park infrastructure. The nearby town of Versailles hosts the annual Pumpkin Show the last weekend of September. The park is open year-round with flush toilets, hot water, showers, and a dump station. Winter camping rates apply from early November through late March.
