Continued hot and sunny weather conditions may allow ozone concentrations to reach the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups category on Tuesday and Wednesday. The transport of wildfire smoke may increase particle pollution levels, reaching the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups category, or worse, at times. About
Big Bend Campground occupies a scenic flat along the Cache la Poudre River in the Canyon Lakes Ranger District of Roosevelt National Forest. At 7,700 feet elevation, the campground blends sagebrush meadows with open conifer forest directly adjacent to Colorado's first designated Wild and Scenic River. The eight campsites include five standard sites and three walk-in tent sites, each with a tent pad, fire grate, picnic table, and bear locker. Primary recreation opportunities include fishing the Cache la Poudre River, hiking nearby trails, and wildlife viewing. A bighorn sheep viewing station is located along the campground entrance road. Potable water is available from a hand pump, and vault toilets serve the campground. Parking spurs range from 35 to 45 feet; all vehicles must fit on designated spurs as off-road parking is prohibited. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis at $23 per night. Each site accommodates up to eight people. Dogs are permitted but must remain on a hand-held leash at all times.
Directions
Drive 11 miles north of Fort Collins on U.S. Highway 287. Turn left (west) onto Colorado Highway 14 and travel approximately 39 miles to the campground.
