About
Trout Lakes Campground offers a secluded backcountry camping experience in Carson National Forest, 11 miles northeast of Cebolla via US 84 and Forest Road 125. The 12 primitive campsites are best suited for tent camping and small campers or trailers, situated among quiet conifers and aspens that turn brilliant gold in autumn. Three small lakes provide fishing opportunities within easy walking distance. The campground has fire rings at each site but no potable water, restrooms, or trash service. Campers should bring adequate water supplies and pack out all waste. Fish remains should be cleaned away from the water and packed out. The access road presents significant challenges. Only the first three miles from Highway 84 are graveled; the remainder is unimproved dirt that becomes extremely slick and impassable during monsoon rains. High-clearance vehicles with four-wheel drive are strongly recommended. Large RVs and trailers are technically allowed but not advised due to road conditions.
