About

Lower Canjilon Lakes Campground is a scenic destination in the Carson National Forest, located at approximately 9,900 feet elevation. The campground is nestled in shaded stands of spruce-fir and aspen trees, providing a cool mountain retreat during the warmer months. Six small ponds ranging from two to six acres offer good fishing opportunities for rainbow trout. The area is accessed via Forest Road 129 (Alkali Spring Road), which is seasonally closed to motorized travel from January 1 through April 30 due to winter conditions. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis and provides basic facilities including vault toilets and picnic tables. Potable water is not available on-site, so campers must bring their own water supply. Nearby services including gas, picnic supplies, and a post office can be found in Cebolla, NM. The Upper Canjilon Lakes Picnic Site above the campground provides additional day-use facilities. The surrounding forest offers opportunities for hiking and wildlife observation in addition to fishing.
