About

Toohey Lake Rustic Campground is a free, seven-site primitive campground located in the Superior National Forest near Tofte, Minnesota. Situated on an easily accessible gravel road (Forest Road 170, "The Grade") that follows an old railroad grade, the campground provides a quiet lakeside experience with a boat launch, dock, and trailer parking for anglers and paddlers. The campground offers OHV ride-in and ride-out opportunities, making it a convenient base for off-highway vehicle enthusiasts exploring the area. Sites are pull-in style with fire rings and vault toilets, though campers must bring their own drinking water and pack out all garbage, including fish remains. Three of the seven sites are longer than 21 feet and may accommodate smaller RVs, though the campground is not specifically designed for RV camping. Pets are welcome on a leash no longer than six feet. Due to the remote location, campers should come prepared with all supplies and practice Leave No Trace principles. The road is not plowed during winter months.
