About

The Temperance River Campground is a small Superior National Forest campground featuring 9 pine-shaded sites nestled in a bend of the Temperance River. Located 12 miles north of Tofte on the Sawbill Trail (Cook County Road 2), this campground offers a peaceful setting for campers seeking access to fishing and outdoor recreation. The campground provides trout fishing opportunities in the Temperance River and access to mountain biking on an extensive network of Forest Service roads. All sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis and feature tables, fire grates, water faucets, and vault toilets. Most sites can accommodate small to moderately sized RVs (under 24 feet), though there are no electrical hookups. Sites are pull-in style rather than specifically designed for RVs. The campground operates seasonally from mid-May through late October. The access road is not plowed during winter months. Quiet hours are enforced from 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m., with a maximum of nine people per site.

Directions

From Highway 61 at Tofte, turn north on County Road 2 (Sawbill Trail). Follow County Road 2 about 12 miles north. The campground entrance is on the left.
