About

Temperance River Campground is a small, intimate Forest Service campground tucked into a scenic bend of the Temperance River within Superior National Forest. The 9 sites are shaded by mature pines and offer a peaceful setting away from the busy North Shore corridor. The campground provides basic amenities including vault toilets, potable water from solar-powered faucets, fire rings at each site, and trash containers. The location makes it an excellent base for anglers targeting trout in the Temperance River and for mountain bikers looking to explore the extensive network of Forest Service roads in the area. Sites are pull-in style and can accommodate most passenger vehicles; some sites will fit small RVs under 24 feet, though the campground is not designed for larger rigs. One vehicle plus one towed vehicle is permitted per site. The campground operates seasonally from early May through mid-October. Sites are managed by a concessionaire and reservations can be made by phone. Dogs are permitted but must be kept on a leash of six feet or shorter, and food must be stored in bear-resistant containers.

Directions

From MN 61 at Tofte, turn north on County Road 2 (Sawbill Trail). Follow County Road 2 about 12 miles north. The campground entrance is on the left.
