About
Todd Harbor Campground is a remote backcountry camping area situated on the north shore of Isle Royale National Park, located in Todd Harbor off the Minong Ridge Trail. This wilderness site epitomizes the park's primitive backcountry experience, accessible only by foot, canoe, kayak, or private boat. The campground features one shelter, several tent sites, and a dock where boats can overnight with approximately 2 feet of water depth under normal conditions. As a first-come, first-served site, Todd Harbor operates with a 3-night maximum stay limit enforced from June 1 through Labor Day annually. The campground provides basic amenities including seasonal composting toilets, non-potable water requiring purification, food storage lockers to protect against wildlife interactions, and a community campfire ring. The terrain throughout the campground is uneven and rough, with no accessible facilities. Visitors should come prepared for complete self-sufficiency, as Isle Royale is a remote wilderness archipelago in Lake Superior. No entrance fee is required for small-party camping (6 or less), though a free overnight permit is mandatory. All park visitors must follow strict regulations including using the community fire ring only, observing quiet hours from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., and adhering to new food storage guidelines implemented to reduce human-wildlife interactions, particularly with wolves on the island.
