Where will you spend the night on Isle Royale?
Open

The park is open for the 2026 season (April 16 through October 31). Individual tent sites and the shelter are first-come, first-served; group sites require advance reservations. A 3-night stay limit applies from June 1 through Labor Day. Scattered snowbanks, ice, and downed trees may be present early in the season.

About

Todd Harbor Campground occupies a scenic position on Isle Royale's remote north shore, serving as a critical waypoint along the demanding Minong Ridge Trail. The campground provides 6 individual tent sites and 3 group sites on a first-come, first-served basis, plus one three-sided shelter for weather protection. Access requires hiking the rugged backcountry trail system, paddling by canoe or kayak, or arriving by private boat at the dock. The campground features seasonal composting toilets, food storage lockers to protect against wildlife, and a community campfire ring where fires are permitted. Water is available but non-potable and must be filtered or treated before drinking. No showers or potable water are provided. The terrain throughout is uneven and rough, with no accessible facilities. As part of Isle Royale's wilderness backcountry, Todd Harbor exemplifies the park's commitment to primitive camping. Visitors must obtain a free overnight permit upon arrival at Rock Harbor or Windigo. Groups of 7 or more require advance reservations at $25 per permit. A 3-night stay limit applies from June 1 through Labor Day.
