Intermediate Lake Campground sits on the shore of Intermediate Lake, a small inland lake within Isle Royale's Chain of Lakes paddling system. This remote backcountry site requires paddlers to portage either 0.6 miles from Lake Richie or 0.4 miles from Siskiwit Lake. The campground provides a true wilderness experience in one of the most isolated national parks in the contiguous United States. The campground has 3 individual tent sites available on a first-come first-served basis. Facilities include seasonal composting toilets, non-potable water, and food storage lockers to protect against wildlife. No potable water is available; campers must filter or treat lake water. A 2-night consecutive stay limit is in effect from June 1 through Labor Day. As a wilderness campground, only self-contained camp stoves are permitted; no campfires. Campers must pack out all trash. Pets are prohibited throughout Isle Royale. The terrain is uneven and rough, and facilities are not ADA accessible. A free overnight permit is required and obtained upon arrival at Rock Harbor or Windigo.
