About

Lake Richie Canoe Campground offers a true wilderness camping experience in the heart of Isle Royale National Park. Located on the north shore of Lake Richie, this primitive backcountry site is accessible only by canoe or kayak via several portage routes: 0.6 miles from Intermediate Lake, 1.2 miles from Chippewa Harbor, 2.0 miles from Moskey Basin, or 0.6 miles from Lake LeSage. No motorized boat access is permitted. The campground features 3 tent sites available on a first-come, first-served basis. Basic amenities include seasonal composting toilets and non-potable water that must be filtered or treated. All campers must use self-contained stoves as campfires are not permitted. The terrain is uneven and rough throughout the campground, and facilities are not accessible for visitors with mobility limitations. During peak season (June 1 through Labor Day), a 2-night stay limit is enforced to ensure fair access to this popular backcountry destination. All visitors must obtain a free overnight camping permit. Pets are not allowed in Isle Royale National Park. Quiet hours are observed from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. EDT. Due to recent wolf activity, strict food storage guidelines are in effect throughout the park to reduce human-wildlife interactions.
