Hiwassee Ocoee State Park Campground
Open for camping and reservations. Starting fall 2026, the campground will close for bathhouse and infrastructure renovations, with anticipated reopening in spring 2027.
About
Gee Creek Campground at Hiwassee/Ocoee Scenic River State Park offers 47 primitive tent sites along the scenic Hiwassee River in southeastern Tennessee. Each site comes equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and grill, while a central bathhouse provides flush toilets, sinks, and hot showers at no additional charge. The campground emphasizes a peaceful atmosphere with no electrical hookups and a prohibition on generators. The Hiwassee River flows directly alongside the camping area, with each site featuring a designated path to the water. This makes Gee Creek a popular destination for paddlers and anglers. Additional amenities include horseshoe pits, a playground for families, and an amphitheater with electricity for programs and gatherings. Group camping is available with eight separate group sites accommodating 10 to 75 people. Reservations can be made up to one year in advance through the Tennessee State Parks reservation system or by calling Central Reservations. Note that starting fall 2026, the campground will close for bathhouse infrastructure renovations with an anticipated reopening in spring 2027.
