About
Gee Creek Campground is part of Hiwassee/Ocoee Scenic River State Park and sits along the scenic Hiwassee River at the gateway to Cherokee National Forest in southeastern Tennessee. The primitive campground offers 47 individual tent camping sites and eight group campsites, each equipped with a table, fire ring, and grill. While the sites themselves are primitive without hookups, the campground provides modern conveniences through a central bathhouse featuring hot showers, sinks, and flush toilets at no additional charge to campers. The campground serves as a perfect base for exploring the region's renowned outdoor recreation opportunities. The Hiwassee River flows directly alongside the campground, providing access for paddling and fishing. The John Muir Trail winds through the area, with tent camping permitted along most sections above the Appalachia Powerhouse. The nearby Ocoee River is famous for its Class III and IV whitewater rapids. Additional amenities include horseshoe pits, a playground for families, and an amphitheater with electricity for programs and gatherings. Campers can also explore nearby attractions including Starr Mountain for hiking and rock climbing, Parksville Lake, and the extensive trail systems of the Cherokee National Forest's Gee Creek Wilderness. The campground offers a maximum stay of two weeks and operates seasonally from spring through fall, providing an ideal primitive camping experience with convenient facilities in one of Tennessee's most scenic river corridors.
