About
Lost Creek Campground provides a true primitive camping experience in the heart of Cherokee National Forest's Hiwassee River recreation region. Located along the scenic banks of Big Lost Creek, this remote campground is surrounded by dense forest and creek gorges, offering campers a peaceful wilderness retreat. The area is accessed via a 7-mile drive on Forest Road 103, emphasizing its secluded nature. This no-fee campground operates year-round on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Each site accommodates up to 5 people and 2 vehicles. The primitive setting means campers must be self-sufficient, as there is no potable water or restrooms available on-site. Creek water is available but must be properly treated before use. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the surrounding Cherokee National Forest, with opportunities for fishing in Big Lost Creek (note that special fishing regulations are in effect), hiking, and creek play. Food storage restrictions are strictly enforced due to bear activity, requiring all food and beverages to be stored in bear-proof containers, locked vehicles, or hard-sided campers when not in use.
Directions
From Highway 64, turn onto Highway 30, go 6 miles and turn right on FR 103. The campground is 7 miles down FR 103.
