Campers at Teklanika

Teklanika River

Closed

Closed for the season. Opens May 20, 2026 and operates through mid-September. Reservations available through reservedenali.com. Vehicle campers must book a minimum 3-night stay; tent campers arriving by bus have no minimum. Wonder Lake Campground remains closed through 2026 due to Pretty Rocks construction, making Teklanika the furthest drivable campground.

About

Teklanika River Campground is the second-largest campground in Denali National Park, located at Mile 29.1 on the Denali Park Road. This is one of the most unique camping experiences in the park system: while most private vehicles must turn around at Mile 15 (Savage River), campers with Teklanika reservations may drive their vehicles to this remote campground. The trade-off is a minimum 3-night stay requirement, and your vehicle must remain parked at your campsite for the duration while you use the park's transit bus system to sightsee deeper into the park. The campground offers 53 sites suitable for both tents and RVs up to 40 feet in length. Each site includes a fire grate and picnic table. Vault toilets are available year-round, and potable water is provided at spigots throughout the campground during the operating season, though water may be unavailable in early spring. There are no showers, hookups, or dump stations on site; RV services are available at Riley Creek Campground near the park entrance. Food storage lockers are provided for tent campers, while those with hard-sided vehicles should store food inside. Tent campers who arrive via the park bus system are exempt from the 3-night minimum stay requirement. The Tek Pass, available for purchase, allows vehicle campers to use transit buses throughout their stay for sightseeing trips toward Eielson and beyond. Quiet hours are 10 pm to 6 am, and generators may only operate from 8-10 am and 4-8 pm. Pets are welcome but must be secured and are not allowed on buses.

Campers at Teklanika
A short walk west of Teklanika (Tek) Campground is Tek River, which flows northward from the Alaska Range.
The Teklanika area is wooded, though less-so than Riley Creek and Savage River Campgrounds
Campers may use RVs or tents at Teklanika in most years. Occasional bear incidents may cause restrictions on tent-camping, but such events are rare (and unpredictable).
