Park Operations Altered Due to Pretty Rocks Landslide
Summer access to facilities and services in Denali remains altered due to the Pretty Rocks Landslide and the associated closure of the Park Road at Mile 43. Check here for more information on what to expect.
Denali Park Road Information
In summer, the Denali Park Road is open to Mile 15 (Savage River) for personal vehicles. Vehicle travel further into the park is limited to transit and tour buses.
About
Teklanika River Campground, located at Mile 29 of the Denali Park Road, provides a unique camping experience within Denali National Park. While most private vehicles must turn around at Mile 15 (Savage River), Teklanika campers can drive their RVs or vehicles directly to the campground. The tradeoff is a mandatory 3-night minimum stay, and vehicles must remain parked at the campsite for the entire duration. Campers use the transit bus system to explore deeper into the park during their stay. Tent campers who arrive via the park bus system are exempt from the 3-night minimum requirement. The campground accommodates up to 53 parties with a maximum individual vehicle length of 40 feet for RVs or trailers. Each site can host up to 8 people and 3 tents. Amenities include vault toilets (available year-round), seasonal potable water, food storage lockers, and an amphitheater. There are no hookups or showers. The setting near Cathedral Mountain and the Teklanika River provides excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. Campfires are permitted only in designated fire grates at each site. A Tek Pass (transit bus pass) is strongly recommended for those wishing to explore the park during their stay.
Directions
Located at Mile 29 on the Denali Park Road. Vehicle campers can drive directly to the campground despite the typical Mile 15 closure at Savage River, but must commit to a 3-night minimum stay and keep vehicles parked at the campsite. Vehicles can only leave when departing the campground at the end of the stay. Tent campers can access the campground via the park bus system.
