Denali State Park

Open — Campgrounds typically operate from mid-May through mid-September. Public-use cabins are available year-round.

About

Denali State Park is an integral part of one of North America's most spectacularly beautiful regions, encompassing 325,240 acres situated between the Talkeetna Mountains to the east and the Alaska Range to the west. The park is divided roughly in half by the George Parks Highway and shares its western boundary with Denali National Park and Preserve. The landscape varies from meandering lowland streams to alpine tundra, dominated by Curry and Kesugi Ridges, a 35-mile long north-south alpine ridge. The park features several developed campgrounds, with K'esugi Ken being the most modern facility. Opened in 2017, K'esugi Ken includes 32 RV campsites with 20, 30, or 50 amp electricity, accommodating RVs up to 100 feet in pull-through sites. The facility also features 10 walk-in tent sites, three ADA-compliant public-use cabins, a ranger station, an interpretive center, and over 2 miles of walking trails throughout the complex. Most sites are fully ADA compliant and include picnic tables, fireplaces, and food storage lockers. Hand pump water wells are located within both camp loops, and vault latrines are distributed throughout for easy access. Other campgrounds in the park include Byers Lake Campground, which features an RV dump station, and Lower Troublesome Creek Campground. The park offers access to extensive trail systems including the Kesugi Ridge Trail System and the Curry Ridge Trail, which climbs 1,100 feet to provide spectacular views of the Alaska Range and Denali. The park provides diverse recreational opportunities ranging from roadside camping to wilderness exploration, with activities including berry picking, fishing, and backcountry hiking.
