Summer access to facilities and services in Denali remains altered due to the Pretty Rocks Landslide and the associated closure of the Park Road at Mile 43. Check here for more information on what to expect.

Denali Park Road Information

In summer, the Denali Park Road is open to Mile 15 (Savage River) for personal vehicles. Vehicle travel further into the park is limited to transit and tour buses.

About

Igloo Creek Campground sits at mile 35 on the Denali Park Road, offering one of the most intimate camping experiences in the park with only 7 tent-only sites. This remote location is accessible exclusively by camper bus, creating a vehicle-free environment perfect for those seeking solitude in Alaska's wilderness. The campground is nestled in Igloo Forest with the bus stop just a short walk from the campsites. Facilities are intentionally minimal to preserve the wilderness character. The campground provides vault toilets that are wheelchair accessible, bear-proof food storage lockers, and seasonal trash collection. No potable water is available on-site, so campers must bring adequate supplies or be prepared to filter water from natural sources. Open fires are prohibited to protect the environment; campers must use portable camp stoves for cooking. Each site accommodates up to three tents and eight people, with stays limited to 14 total nights per summer. Five sites can be reserved in advance through the park's reservation system, while two sites are available first-come, first-served at Riley Creek Mercantile or Denali Bus Depot. The path from the campground to the bus stop features compacted gravel suitable for wheelchairs. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound in this area, with possibilities of spotting moose, bears, and Dall sheep in the surrounding landscape.
