Tawas Point State Park Campground sits at the tip of a narrow sand spit extending into Lake Huron, creating the protected waters of Tawas Bay. This 183-acre park offers one of Michigan's most distinctive camping locations, with the modern campground positioned along the bay side where waters are warmer and calmer than the open lake. The campground features 193 electric sites equipped with 20/30-amp service, with some sites offering 50-amp hookups. All sites include a picnic table, fire ring, and cement pad. Pull-through sites and ADA-accessible options are available. Two bathhouses provide flush restrooms and hot showers, and a sanitation station serves RV campers. A designated swimming beach adjacent to the campground offers buoyed swimming areas in the warm, shallow bay waters. The park is renowned among birders as a premier migratory bird watching destination during spring and fall, when exhausted songbirds rest on the peninsula during their Lake Huron crossing. The historic Tawas Point Lighthouse, a pet-friendly beach area between the campground and lighthouse, and nature trails round out the recreational offerings.

Directions

From US-23 in East Tawas, turn east onto Tawas Beach Road and follow it approximately 2.5 miles to the park entrance at the end of the peninsula.
